Scams 245x229 Review: Scams Helicopter Parents (Single)Artist: Scams
Release: Helicopter Parents (Single)
Release Date: 22nd August 2011

I was waiting for this to happen! Dubstep has leaked into pretty much every other genre of music so it was only a matter of time before it cropped up in an indie/rock song. I wonder how long it will be until we hear The Cribs getting a bit wobbly or Razorlight getting down with some punishing filth?

Ill now prepare myself for endless people sending me youtube and soundcloud links of bands that have done it sooner. Let me have my moment of discovery god damn it!!

Anyways, all this is besides the point. Aside from having the smallest element of dubstep for a total of like 10 seconds, Scams have produced a quality indie/pop track. Helicopter Parents is a great guitar driven track complimented by frontman Andy Morgan’s powerful vocals and catchy lyrics. I don’t know why, but they make me think of how Scouting For Girls would sound with more balls! Only me? Thought so!

With the subtle addition of the aforementioned dubstep samples in the bridge and outro, it actually makes for a very refreshing listen and really works in their favour. Was nice to listen to a track and be thrown completely off track rather than knowing what’s coming next.

It’s one your sure to be sticking on repeat. A very promising release that I hope they do well from.
